Dr. Robert
Alden –
nominated
by the IEEE Canada Robert Alden graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelors, Masters and PhD in Electrical Engineering. Following his early academic career at this university, Dr. Alden joined McMaster University in Hamilton, where he is currently Professor Emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He also is an independent consultant in power engineering for clients in industry. Following are a number of salient points that highlight the contributions of this outstanding Canadian engineer: * He led the development of an Electric Power Program at McMaster that has been at the forefront of research and education in Canada and he pioneered web-based course materials for all his graduate and undergraduate courses He helped to create the well-known “Power Research Laboratory” which specializes in electric engineering using sophisticated experimental and computational facilities projects with industrial and commercial overtone. * He has enthusiastically led the development of IEEE in electronic communication. He is, I believe the IEEE Canada Web Master,and is a consultant to others in web design. * He was instrumental in establishing a key magazine for IEEE, the “IEEE Canadian Review” now with a circulation of 15,000. This projects the image of electrical, electronics, energy and computer professionals in Canada Dr. Alden is a great Canadian talent. A man who has done promising research in electrical power engineering and an admirable mentor to several generations of students.
