Since 1975 however, Honorary Members were elected from non-members of the Institute and its Member Societies who had achieved outstanding distinction through service to engineering and the profession of engineering in Canada. There have also been non-engineers elected.

The list that follows includes Honorary Members elected since 1960.

Les premiers Membres Honoraires furent élus membres de la Canadian Society of Civil Engineers en 1889. Jusqu'en 1973, la liste des Membres Honoraires inclut des membres de la Famille Royale, des Gouverneurs généraux du Canada, des politiciens, des gens d'affaires, des Présidents sortant de la CSCE et de l'Institut et d'autres ingénieurs et scientistes canadiens de renom.

Depuis 1975 cependant, le Conseil de l'Institut a conféré cette distinction honorifique à des non-membres de l'Institut et de ses Sociétés Membres qui ont contribué de façon exceptionnelle à l'essor de l'ingénierie et de la profession d'ingénieur au Canada. Les élus n'étaient pas nécessairement des ingénieurs.
